Elizabethan Beauty Ideals

Make Up

The Elizabethans used certain things to get there complexion and makeup, the thing they used was, white makeup to hide ageing and to get a paler look, as this was a sign of good health and wealth.  For the upper class people they used white lead and vinegar called Ceruse, which is absorbed through the skin and can cause very bad skin, as it was poisonous, but they still used more and more of it to cover up what it had done.

For the lips were dyes that were for the upper class, as they were expensive, they used a well know one called Cochineal, Using a mixture of egg whites and oches to get a red tint to cheeks. Also black kohl was used to outline the eyes to look darker, the eyebrows were very thin and light, to make them have a high forehead. But when washing the face to get rid of spots, blemishes and freckles, was what was most popular to use was mercury, rosewater and lemon juice, and mercury was used for washing the face too.

Hair

Which was that the Elizabethans wore a lot of wigs or hairstyles that were red, high and frizzed, and sometimes the hair was styled in a heart shape, by using wire or pads. But most preferred natural curly hair, which was inspired by Elizabeth 1. Another thing that was used in the hair that was styled, with accessories, such as pearls, jewels to add to it.

Quote

A quote from a website about Elizabethan beauty:

  As follows:-
''Elizabethan age is said to be the ‘GOLDEN AGE IN ENGLISH HISTORY-the time of reign of Queen Elizabeth''.
When i saw this quote, i thought that it would be good to use, because she is telling you what it is known for being when Elizabeth reigned. It was inspiring as, you can think it was the golden age and you can incorporate that into a idea.
